Hike Through Pennsylvania’s Wintery Landscape On The Pinchot Trail

Winter's beauty can leave us awe-inspired, but that feeling can wear off pretty quickly when we're couped up inside all of the time. While it might not be a cure-all, we can combat, (at least a little), cabin fever with some time exploring outdoors. Bundle up, bring plenty of water and snacks, and follow the Pinchot Trail, a winter hike in Thornhurst Township in Pennsylvania.

Slip on your warmest hiking boots - or for an adventure of a different kind, your snowshoes - for a scenic journey along the Pinchot Trail, a long one at 22 miles roundtrip.

While the trail rates between moderate and difficult, it is long but can be completed in a little over seven hours, if you decide to hike it in a single day.

Backpacking is quite popular along this Pennsylvania trail.

Follow the orange blazes to stay on the trail. For a shorter option, set off on the 9.9-mile North Loop or the 13.1-mile South Loop.

Both are considered moderate and can be completed in around half a day. They're an ideal alternative if you don't have a full day or prefer a shorter trek.

The dog-friendly trail tends to be quite quiet in all seasons, so don't expect to run into many, if any, other hikers.

Proper hiking shoes or boots are pretty much a necessity as the trail is incredibly rocky.

As you hike or snowshoe, you'll pass snow-capped trees, bogs, creeks, and a beautiful waterfall.

If you're hiking when the ground's not packed with snow, be prepared to deal with extremely muddy conditions.

Consider bringing hiking poles to help traverse the winter terrain.

Remember, if you go, follow the pack-in pack-out rule. Bring whatever you've taken on your hike back out with you afterward.
