Hiking To Wind Cave, An Aboveground Cave In Pennsylvania Will Give You A Surreal Experience

Wind Cave Trail in Pennsylvania offers a challenging hike leading to a fascinating cave.

Pennsylvania is well-known for its caves, especially those like Laurel Caverns (the state's deepest cave) and Penn's Cave (America's only all-water cave). Did you know that there are smaller named and unnamed caves that dot the landscape, too? Follow the Wind Cave Trail in Pennsylvania, for example, that leads straight to a fascinating cave.

Make sure you're up for a bit of a challenge when you set off on the picturesque Wind Cave Trail, which is considered moderate.

The 2.2-mile out and back trail comes with a lot of hilly terrain, so you're definitely going to get a workout as you make your way to Wind Cave. Follow the orange blazes to stay on the trail.

Don't worry, though, because you'll have a few pretty spots along the way to stop and catch your breath. Admire the tiny waterfalls, for example.

Just keep an eye on where you're hiking, because you might run into some slick spots. You'll probably want to lather on the bug spray too, as it can get pretty buggy, especially in the warmer months.

You can't miss the cave - or the signs warning you of the danger that lurks within. Authorities recommend only experienced cavers go into the cave, which can get pretty tight.

If you decide to venture in, you'll definitely want to bring a flashlight along, so you can see where you are going.

And if you have claustrophobia, you probably want to avoid venturing into the cave. Before you go in, make sure you let someone know where you are, just in case of an emergency.
