Peace Valley Park Is A Hidden Garden In Pennsylvania Worthy Of A Day Hike
Living in a state as large and as diverse as Pennsylvania promises us nearly unlimited opportunities to explore and, during our adventures, we inevitably uncover a hidden gem or two. My favorite gems are usually outdoorsy - waterfall hikes, little-known parks, and secluded nature reserves. If you're not from the area, you likely haven't heard of this hidden garden in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, but it's a worthy addition to your must-visit list. (If you are from around here, you already know what a gem it is and might want to plan a visit soon.)
Get outdoors, breathe in the fresh air, and explore some of the 1,500-acre Peace Valley Park, an educational center and sanctuary that promises the chance to connect with nature.
As of June 2024, the nature center at the park is temporarily closed for renovations. However, events and activities continue to take place.
The best way to explore this natural attraction is on one of its walking paths, the shortest of which is the Mini Loop. Carve out between 10 and 20 minutes for your stroll along this trail that will take you through the woods and past a butterfly field.
Wildflowers add a pop of color to the landscape during the warmer months, and Lake Galena is arguably one of the masterpieces of this nature park. Get a glimpse of it on the 40-minute Lake Walk.
One thing you'll notice as you explore is the many birds. Peace Valley Park has been designated an "Important Bird Area" by the Pennsylvania Audubon Society.
Keep an eye out for some of the 293 bird species that live in the park as you explore the woods and meadows and stroll past bird feeders, ponds, and streams. The park has several bird blinds, too.
Peace Valley Park hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, including morning bird walks, mushroom meanders, and Friday firefly walks.
If you've got kiddos, you'll find a full menu of programs for ages nine months through high school. Check out the summer camps, too.
Once you've discovered this hidden gem in Doylestown, you'll likely return. Make sure you do so in each season, so you can admire the brilliant foliage in the fall and the...
Snowy landscape in the winter.
