Perched above the Susquehanna River in Marysville, Hamer Woodlands at Cove Mountain Preserve promises tranqulity in an otherwise noisy world.

Parking is ample. You may even want to bring a picnic along, and snag one of the tables near the parking lot.

The best way to explore this natural oasis is on the Cove Mountain Preserve Trail. Tallying 2.7 miles, the out-and-back trail earns a moderate rating.

Wear a pair of sturdy hiking shoes or boots, so you'll have an easier time dealing with the rocky terrain. You'll also face some steep terrain.

Because the 1,400-acre preserve sits along the Kittatinny Ridge, part of the path where birds migrate, you'll have the opportunity to view a variety of birds.

Keep an eye out for other wildlife, too, like tortoises as they crawl along the path.

You'll likely spot quite a few frogs Some don't even mind hamming it up for the camera.

Don't be surprised if you run into a porcupine or a skunk. A ton of photo-worthy moments await along your journey.

Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trail, the view of the Susquehanna River just might take your breath away.
