East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue has provided a powerful voice for exotic animals - torn from their natural habitat to be sold at pet stores, kept as pets, or used as entertainment - since 2000.
Some of the residents - the lucky few who survived life in captivity - came to the sanctuary from situations of heartbreaking abuse, neglect, and ignorance.
Few people realize the extreme consequences on the lives of exotic animals who are torn from their natural homes to become pets or props in entertainment venues, which makes educating the public a top priority at East Coast Exotic Animal Sanctuary.
The sanctuary provides a safe haven for a range of exotic animals, including monkeys, tigers, kinkajous, and even goats and cows.
Dedicated volunteers ensure all of the residents eat a healthy diet, have proper veterinary care, and have plenty to...
Keep them physically and mentally stimulated.
In fact, the residents also help with the fundraising efforts - such as painting pictures to be sold or put up for auction - that raise the money necessary to sustain the sanctuary.
Fundraising has played a crucial role in East Coast Exotic Animal Sanctuary fulfilling its mission. That mission, however, was threatened when tragedy struck on May 17, 2014.
Fire ripped through the main shelter of the sanctuary, claiming the lives of two cats. The building - and all that was in it - was destroyed.
Through the tireless efforts of volunteers and donors and with the assistance of grants, the sanctuary reopened its doors in 2016.
Today, East Coast Exotic Animal Sanctuary continues its mission to educate the public and the residents remain in the safe haven of their rebuilt home.
