While most people don't associate Pennsylvania with beaches, we have quite a few beautiful ones that offer a picture-perfect way to spend a scorching summer day. The only challenge we have is deciding which one to spend the day at. Shawnee State Park in Pennsylvania features a gorgeous sand beach and a full menu of activities, making it well worth a visit.
Stretching across nearly 4,000 acres in Schellsburg, Shawnee State Park beckons beach-goers, nature lovers, and hikers with its full slate of activities.
One of the gems of the sprawling state park is the 451-acre Shawnee Lake, which is particularly popular during the summer.
Don't forget your beach chairs or beach towels, and stake your spot on the sandy beach or under one of the trees in the nearby grass.
Shawnee State Park offers showers and restrooms, so you can explore after you relax in the water. Swimming is at your own risk as there are no lifeguards at the beach.
A picnic's an ideal way to stay refreshed and energized, especially when you can relax at one of the picnic tables that are shaded by towering trees. The beach also features vending machines, if you want a quick snack.
You can also explore Shawnee Lake by renting a canoe, a kayak, a rowboat, or a paddleboat. Rentals are available during the summer, or you can bring your own boat.
However, the fun doesn't stop on the water. Biking, hiking, disc golf, and wildlife watching are all popular activities.
Turn a summer day out into a getaway by pitching a tent, or renting a cabin, a yurt, or the lakeside lodge. RV parking spots are also available.
While the beach beckons sunbathers and swimmers in the summer, the park also offers fun winter activities - ice skating, cross-country skiing, sledding, and snowmobiling.
