Most People Don’t Know That Oregon Has A Ghost Forest And It’s Eerily Enchanting

Located at the Neskowin Beach State Recreation Site on the Oregon coast, the Neskowin Ghost Forest is a hauntingly beautiful natural wonder. At low tide, you can see amazing 2,000-year-old tree trunks jutting out of the sand, like apparitions of the forest that used to stand there. This unique place is enchanting through and through.

In the late 1990s, powerful coastal storms revealed something unexpected at Neskowin Beach— an ancient forest buried in the sand.

The trees are said to be around 2,000 years old, and to have once reached as high as 200 feet tall.

Experts theorize that the forest was ravaged by a large earthquake or tsunami sometime around the year 1700. The disaster must have buried the remainder of the forest deep in the sand, where it has been preserved for so many years, hidden under the sea.

When the tide is low enough (especailly in the winter), you can still see the remains of the ghost forest peeking out of the surf. It's a truly unique and enchanting sight.
