There’s A Little Known Unique Nature Preserve In Oklahoma And It’s Truly Amazing

The J.T. Nickel Preserve is located near Tahlequah in the Ozarks and comprises 17,000 acres of astounding beauty and environmental protection areas that are filled with spring-fed creeks, forests, woodlands, prairies, wildlife species and so much more. You'll also find a little geological water park within the area that is a hidden gem in the summer. This unique nature preserve is a one-of-a-kind destination in the Sooner State overlooking the Illinois River and is free for all visitors.
The J.T. Nickel Preserve is home to "Bathtub Rock" - a group of smoothed over rocks that form pools and slides.
This area is gorgeous and is the perfect place to cool off on hot summer days.
The largest pool is large enough to jump into and become completely submerged.
It is a little geological water park right here in Oklahoma!
The area is home to free ranging elk. The nature preserve introduced elk back into the Ozarks after they were absent for over 150 years. Currently, there are around 50 elk.
White tailed deer, coyotes, black bears, bobcats and many others animal species can be found at J.T. Nickel Preserve.

The topography is very diverse within the preserve and every section offers something unique.
There are three self-guided nature trails that are open to visitors during operating hours.
Goats Bluff overlooks the Illinois River and offers stunning views of the surrounding area.
J.T. Nickel Preserve is also one of the top places in the state for bird watchers.
