Oklahoma has experienced the most tornadoes in May, April, and June, with Oklahoma County recording the highest number since 1950.

The National Weather Service recently published a list of noteworthy tornado statistics since 1950 in the state of Oklahoma, including the most tornadoes per county. The most common months for tornadoes in Oklahoma are May, April, and June. According to the National Weather Service, Oklahoma recorded its most tornadoes in a year in 1999 with a total of 145.

Here are the totals for each month from 1950-2018, according to the National Weather Service: January: 18; February: 51; March: 271; April: 797; May: 1601; June: 507; July: 117; August: 94; September: 124; October: 151; November: 107; and December: 28.

No. 5 (tie): Tulsa County

Tulsa County tied for 5th place, along with Kay County for a total of 97 tornadoes since 1950.

Kay County tied for 5th place, along with Tulsa County for a total of 97 tornadoes since 1950.

No. 4: Canadian County

Canadian County came in 4th place for a total of 103 tornadoes since 1950.

No. 3: Osage County

Osage County came in 3rd place for a total of 106 tornadoes since 1950.

No. 2: Caddo County

Caddo County came in 2nd place for a total of 121 tornadoes since 1950.

No. 1: Oklahoma County

Coming in 1st place for the most tornadoes since 1950 is Oklahoma County with a total of 122 tornadoes.

Some more noteworthy statistics to note include:

2019: No tornadoes recorded until April 17, when two recorded (preliminary); 143 recorded as of Oct. 24 (preliminary)

2018: No tornadoes recorded until May 2, when 15 recorded (preliminary)

2017: Nine tornadoes recorded in October this year, the highest state tally for this month since 2001 (when 19 recorded)
