Sometimes, visiting a park that isn't exactly local to you—but isn't out of state—can be just the change of scenery you need. Ohio is fortunate to have a large amount of state parks, nature preserves and even metro parks. Getting outdoors is fun and easy here in the Buckeye State. If you've yet to visit Side Cut Metropark in Maumee, you're missing out on more than you likely think. Part of the Toledo Metroparks system, this particular park has plenty to see and do.
Welcome to Side Cut Metropark, one of the most underrated parks in the state of Ohio.
You'll find it along River Road in Maumee.
Part of a series of riverfront parks, Side Cut is home to some historic and carefully preserved canal locks.
As you can imagine, there's plenty of both nature and history to explore along the trails at Side Cut.
There's plenty to do here that you usually aren't able to do at most metro parks, such as fishing—and there's even a sledding hill in the winter.
Side Cut Metropark is open daily from 7 a.m. until dark.
You can even kayak or canoe on the peaceful Silver Lake. Just use the stone steps or the accessible dock with rollers.
