East Harbor State Park occupies a peninsula on the shores of Lake Erie, eight miles northwest of Sandusky, Ohio.
The park provides a serene silhoutte for the setting sun.
Dip your toes in the refreshing waters of Lake Erie from the 1,500-foot sandy beach.
Take a swim, bring a fishing pole, practice yoga, or just stroll along the beach to take in the beautiful scenery on a sunny day. Lake Erie is the fourth largest, and most shallow, of the five Great Lakes. It is the eleventh largest freshwater lake in the world.
For a peaceful paddle on the calm lake, bring along your kayak.
The East Harbor State Park Marina offers boat launches, boating supplies, docks, fuel, and even an on-duty mechanic.
With more than 10 miles of hiking trails at East Harbor State Park, there is plenty of wildlife to see, including birds, waterfowl, and deer.
The park is home to wildlife wetlands preserves, attracting hundreds of migrating birds each year.
Sleep under the stars, and beneath a canopy of trees, at the East Harbor State Park Campground.
It is the largest state park campground in Ohio, with 354 electric sites. Free Wi-Fi is included, and pets are welcome. You can rent one of the cabins, or a yurt, if you prefer those accommodations to a standard tent or an RV. A camp store, open April through October, carries firewood, ice, and other camping supplies. Bike and sports equipment rentals are also offered. Pack your frisbee to take advantage of the on-site disc golf course, too!
For a bird’s eye view of Lake Erie, climb 77 stairs to the top of the Marblehead Lighthouse.
The lighthouse was constructed in 1821. Buy your tickets at the entrance to the lighthouse on the day of your visit. A nominal entrance fee is charged, and a museum is located on the property. The lighthouse is approximately a 15-minute drive from East Harbor State Park, just past the ferry that travels to Kelleys Island.
