Venture Nearly 100-Feet Deep Below The Earth At These One Of A Kind Caverns In New York
Secret Caverns in Schoharie County, New York, offers a unique underground adventure with guided tours, quirky decor, and a 100-foot underground waterfall.
This week, more and more areas of New York state began to see snow falling and signs that winter is here to stay. Even though winter may be peering through the cracks, there's still plenty of time to hit the road and enjoy some of our favorite attractions that are still up and running for the rest of the year. If you're ready to take one last road trip that the whole family will be fascinated by, it's time you head on out to Schoharie County.
Even if you've never actually been to Secret Caverns, you've most likely seen the eye-catching hand-painted signs for this attraction in Schoharie County.
Leading you to an even more interesting building, it's impossible not to be intrigued by all that is Secret Caverns.
Inside the Secret Caverns shop, you'll find more colorful and quirky signs and decor strung about - while also giving you plenty to shop around for.
Before you make your way down to the caves though, you'll meet Floyd and Lucky - the cows who reportedly fell through an 85-foot deep hole that led to the discovery of Secret Caverns in 1928.
Looking exactly like what it is, a doorway leading to a mysterious underground world, in order to make your way to the caves you'll have to trek down 103 stairs.
After venturing down the petrified escalator of Secret Caverns, you'll begin to make your way through a half-mile stretch of these caves.
Guided Tours at Secret Caverns depart roughly every 15-minutes, taking anywhere from 45-minutes to an hour to explore everything there is to see at Secret Caverns.
Along the way, you'll want to keep an eye out for unique formations that are said to resemble things like alligators and beehives - with even wishing wells that you'll pass too.
Things may be getting quite frigid above Earth's surface, but all year long Secret Caverns keeps a temperature of 50 degrees, meaning you'll want to make sure that you have a good jacket.
The best part about this underground adventure? Just before you turn back around, you'll get to experience a waterfall that flows 100-feet below the ground!
Open throughout the year, come and explore the wonders of Secret Caverns for a day trip of a lifetime.
