It's true, Mount Marcy's total elevation of 5,344 feet may trigger an instant flood of intimidation to come over you. Once you reach the summit of this monstrous piece of Mother Nature, you can remember this gorgeous photo and soak in the huge accomplishment which is that you're standing on top of this thing!

Taken from the nearby Mount Haystack, another fellow high peak, you can truly appreciate the size of this mountain captured above.

Having its first ascent take place in 1837, Mount Marcy has been a longtime favorite hike for adventurers to take on.

If you decide to take the most commonly used Van Hoevenberg trail you'll be in luck!

The Van Hoevenberg trail taking you up Mount Marcy is very well marked. For your average adventurous soul, this breathtaking hike will take you anywhere between 6-7 hours to reach the summit. While the roundtrip hike can most certainly be tackled in one day, often hikers enjoy camping out on the mountain and making a weekend out of it!

After a couple of hours into your hike, you'll be welcomed by the tranquil and photogenic Marcy Dam.

If you take on this hike in one of New York's warmer months, Marcy Dam provides a great spot for you and your friends to cool off.

Like all of New York's mountains, no matter which time of year you decide to visit Mount Marcy, you'll be greeted by one-of-a-kind views.

Located in the town of Keene, this mountain can be found just over 10 miles south of Lake Placid. This means Mount Marcy falls in the area of our state where you'll find mountain tops frosted over with snow before Winter has even thought about showing up to anywhere else. We love it! The snow covering Mount Marcy makes for a great place to go snowboarding or even alpine skiing.

All over the mountain you'll find eye catching stacked rock formations, which may or may not be a crucial part of your hike.

Depending on which mountain you find yourself on or who you're talking to, some believe a bit of superstition lies within these balanced rocks! Decide not to add a stone to the pile? You may just find yourself encountering a bit of bad weather on your descent!
