The weather around our state may be a little wacky this time of year, but before you know it we'll be sweating and searching for the nearest body of water to cool off in. Sure, having a pool in your backyard may be convenient but there's nothing like spending a day (or more) on the beach relaxing in and by the water. Taking a trip to a gorgeous beach doesn't just mean trekking all the way out to the ocean, New York is also filled with an endless supply of lakes that will remind you why you've been dreaming of summer all winter long.
Ready to take your bathing suits out of storage? Here are 11 gorgeous beaches in New York that you MUST check out this summer:
1. Sunken Forest, Fire Island
While we could most likely gush about the natural wonder that is Fire Island for days, we'll try and make this efficient for you. One of the most magical places to make our list, this beach offers you a unique forest to stroll through and cool off in after a long day of soaking up the sun.
2. Hamlin Beach State Park, Hamlin
Our residents particularly love coming to this park to explore its wonderful trail, another reason it draws in people is because of the beautiful sandy beach. Located on the south shore of Lake Ontario, this beach is the perfect spot for a day trip.
3. Green Lakes State Park, Fayetteville
The stunning water at Green Lakes State Park will have you pinching yourself, it's color and clarity are out of this world. This park is also a favorite spot for camping amongst our residents and we love splashing around in the Green Lakes water!
4. Million Dollar Beach, Lake George
One of the most well-known beaches in the Lake George area, this spot is worth the trip. Spitting distance from the heart of Lake George, the beach charges a $10 parking fee that's worth every penny.
5. Sandy Island Beach State Park, Pulaski
Right on Lake Ontario, you'll find this incredibly unique freshwater dune hiding right in New York! A beloved spot for our residents who dabble in birdwatching, this beach will take your breath away!
6. Sylvan-Verona Beach Resort, Sylvan Beach
A spot definitely worth adding to your summer bucket list, the village of Sylvan Beach has more than enough to keep you entertained. After spending a day at the beach you can follow up the fun with an evening of enjoying the Sylvan Beach Amusement Park!
7. Sodus Point Beach Park, Sodus Point
Another great place on our list to take the whole family, we couldn't think of anything much more relaxing than swimming in the water and enjoying the view of a charming lighthouse!
8. East Hampton Main Beach, East Hampton
One of Long Island's less rocky and more sandy beaches, East Hampton's Main Beach has lifeguards, bathrooms, and a snack bar.

9. Cedar Point State Park, Clayton
Also a great place to check out if you're looking to go camping, Cedar Point in the Thousand Islands region is one of our states oldest parks! With fantastic views of the St. Lawrence River, sandy beaches, and plenty of summer activities available at the park, this unique beach should be added to your bucket list.
10. Southwick Beach State Park, Woodville
A long, spacious stretch of beautiful beach awaits you at Southwick Beach State Park. Great for camping, many of our residents make coming to this park for the weekend a family tradition! With tranquil views of Lake Ontario, the swimming here is widely talked about.
11. Beaver Island State Park, Grand Island
A perfect alternative to some of the Niagara River areas more crowded beaches, this state park is definitely worth visiting! A great place if you're looking to spend the day with your family, the park offers a half-mile clean, sandy beach for your too cool off in.
