Castle Rock Trail, a 3.4-mile out-and-back trail with picturesque overlooks of the area, is the perfect trail to enjoy the lake in all its beauty. And when the leaves begin changing, it will be well worth the drive.

The 1,334-acre lake is located in Hamilton County. The hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake, which is part of the larger town Indian Lake, is located on the southeastern shore.

Castle Rock Trail is the perfect trail for all ages, and you'll have a hard time finding a better perch from which to soak in the sights and sounds of the area.

If you want a bigger challenge, hit the 5.6-mile Blue Mountain Trail, which is rated difficult and leads hikers to the Blue Mountain Fire Tower.

The Adirondack Experience, a museum located on Blue Mountain Lake, is currently closed, but Blue Mountain Lake is certainly still worth the trip for hiking and lake activities alone. Plus, it's only about a two-hour drive from Albany. For this one, you'll want your hiking shoes and your swimsuit, too.
