The View From This Little-Known Overlook In New Mexico Is Almost Too Beautiful For Words
The Rio Grande Gorge West Rim Trail offers a peaceful and scenic hike with stunning views and minimal crowds.
There are lots of incredible hikes with breathtaking overlooks spread throughout the state of New Mexico. However, when there are breathtaking views, these hiking spots and overlooks tend to get crowded which can take away some of the joy of the overlook. If you have found this happening at your favorite overlook, head over to check out the Rio Grande Gorge West Rim Trail for a stunning view at this little-known overlook.
The Rio Grande Gorge West Rim Trail can be found northwest of Taos, New Mexico, in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument.
The hike is a great place to see both the sunrise and sunset---and at under 4 miles with not too much elevation gain, it's a quick and easy hike.
There's really nothing like seeing the Rio Grande flowing far below you as you stand and walk along the cliffs of the canyon rim.
You can also find some interesting stone art here where rocks have been arranged into interesting shapes for others to enjoy.
The trail is easy and well maintained. It provides a peaceful place to walk and enjoy the scenic views away from the usual crowds.
If you are lucky, you may even see some bighorn sheep, which are known to travel near the trail. These animals are facinating to watch.
This is the perfect hike to get away from the city and enjoy some scenic views away from the crowds. If you can get here early enough for the sunrise, you won't regret it, but even if you just come for the sunset, it will be one to remember. The bridge crossing the Rio Grande is quite picturesque, and you will enjoy the solitude you can experience with such an incredible view.
