Fishing is a favorite pastime for many. It can be relaxing for many hours as you wait and wait and wait some more. And, with a little bit of skill mixed with a lot of luck, it becomes quite exciting when a fish finally bites! For those of you who fish, you may have your favorite spots. But if you haven't yet been to Clayton Lake, it may become your new favorite spot for fishing in New Mexico.
The 170-acre Clayton Lake is the centerpiece of the 471-acre Clayton Lake State Park. Here you can go hiking, camping, boating (both motorized and non-motorized), picnicking, wildlife viewing, and fishing!
What Clayton Lake State Park is most famous for isn't its lake, however, but 500 dinosaur footprints that were discovered here. This is one if the top reasons people come to visit.
However, the lake itself is beautiful and it's no wonder why fishing is a popular activity here.
If you enjoy quiet and solitude while you fish, Clayton Lake is the place to be. You can either bring your own boat and launch it at the boat ramp or fish from the lake's shoreline.
Among the fish you will find here are trout, catfish, bass, and walleye. The fishing season is typically from March through September so plan your visit accordingly.
Throughout the park, you'll also find five campgrounds if you want to extend your fishing trip to more than a day. At a park as lovely as this, why not?
