Perched Above Sandy Hook, This Overlook Is One Of The Best Views in All Of New Jersey

The Jersey Shore is an amazing place, but it's not usually where I'd go to see the sights from high in the sky - unless I was going to climb a lighthouse, of course! The tallest natural points in New Jersey tend to be inland, in our state forests and mountains. But I was shocked to discover that not only is the best overlook in New Jersey located on the shore, in the charming town of Highlands, but that this is actually the highest point on the Atlantic Seaboard! Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook is a charming small park home to overlooks and monuments, and it has one of the best views available anywhere in the Garden State - towering over the Atlantic Ocean and overlooking the massive barrier spit of Sandy Hook. It's not the most well-known overlook, which means you just might have a lot of room to take in the sights. Come with us to discover this stunning overlook!

The sign at Mount Mitchill makes this look like a peaceful place - and it is, albeit one with an amazing thrill at its heart.

That would be the stunning overlook here, which is about as high as you can get on the eastern seaboard.

There are binoculars here to give you a clearer look, and the island in the foreground is the famous Sandy Hook barrier spit - another top shore destination.

But that's not all there is to see here. The overlook is full of informative signs explaining this natural wonder's history and attributes.

The peaceful park is also home to the Monmouth County 9/11 memorial, which is a simple and beautiful tribute.

You'll definitely want to stick around for a sunset here - it's a view that can't be equalled anywhere else in New Jersey.

If you'd like to see a little more of the natural beauty this area has to offer, head just two miles southeast to explore Hartshorne Woods Park. And if you'd like to make this place your vacation home, you're only a five-minute drive from Beachwalk at Sea Bright, a luxury beachfront hotel located only feet from the water.
