Mind the signs - this isn't a typical recreation destination - and keep your eyes on the trail as you approach the furnace.

You'll know you're there when you find some unusual stone structures - the remnants of a massive industrial complex that was at its peak in the 1850s.

The core is the massive Weymouth Forge/Furnace, which played a key role in providing shot and bombs to to the government during the War of 1812.

Today, though, nature has reclaimed the remnants of the forge, which has been dormant since 1897. It's safe to explore, and is one of the area's top destinations for explorers.

The forge is the main attraction here, but you'll also find a clearing with picnic tables to take a rest after your hike.
