New Jersey’s Ghost Lake Trail Leads To A Magnificent Hidden Oasis

New Jersey's Ghost Lake Trail in Jenny Jump State Forest offers stunning viewpoints and a beautiful lake oasis.

When people hear "Jersey," they normally picture the Jersey Shore. And while it's true the beaches here are incredible, New Jersey residents know the state is actually home to some great hiking, too.

There are so many amazing trails to pick from, but one in particular we love is located in Jenny Jump State Forest near Frelinghuysen Township. Not only does New Jersey's Ghost Lake Trail offer some stunning viewpoints, it also eventually leads you to a hidden oasis.

Swamp, Summit, and Ghost Lake Trail may seem like an ordinary hike at first glance, but this out and back trail takes you to a really beautiful view and a gorgeous lake oasis.

The trail's about 5.5 miles total and is rated moderate on AllTrails, so just keep that in mind during your journey.

The viewpoints along the way are just stunning.

In total, you gain 1,059 feet in terms of elevation.

We love getting to look across Jenny Jump State Forest.

You feel like you're on top of the world up here.

At the end of the trail before you turn around, you reach a beautiful body of water: Ghost Lake.

Despite the semi-creepy name, it's a lovely spot to stop.

One of our favorite aspects of Ghost Lake is the land bridge.

It's so cool to walk on this and take in the lake.

Hiking up to this beautiful green oasis is always such a treat.

It makes the long and rocky trail to get here feel totally worth it.

Just keep in mind that New Jersey's Ghost Lake Trail is best used from April until October. If you want to bring your furry friend, we have good news. Dogs are indeed able to use this trail; just remember to keep your pup leashed.
