Hike Through A Forest, Past A Lake, And Up To Stunning Views On This New Jersey Trail
Splitrock Road to Hawk Watch via Four Birds Trail offers a challenging and scenic hike in New Jersey with diverse natural features and stunning views.
New Jersey has some gorgeous hikes, there's no doubt about it. If you're looking for steep elevation gain and striking views, though, there are a couple of hikes people return to time and time again, like Mount Tammany. But if you're looking for a similar kind of hike with less traffic, we have just the trail for you.
The Splitrock Road to Hawk Watch via Four Birds Trail is an amazingly fun trail for hikers looking for a decently challenging hike in New Jersey.
Located in Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area in Morris County, this trail has a lot of exciting features.
This out and back trail is about four and a half miles long, so it'll take about two hours to finish.
Be warned: The elevation gain is about 800 feet, so you will be huffing and puffing. It's worth it, though!

And keep an eye out for wildflowers (depending on the season), animals (including black bears), and hawks (it's a great place to birdwatch!).

You can bring dogs on the Splitrock Road to Hawk Watch via Four Birds Trail, but they must be kept on a leash. And bring bug spray — it can get buggy on this trail, especially during the warmer months!
