Explore nine of the most beautiful waterfalls in New Hampshire on one unforgettable road trip through the White Mountains.
Driving through New Hampshire on a beautiful day is its very own activity. However, it's even better when you drive through the Granite State and chase waterfalls. We have put together the ultimate New Hampshire waterfall loop scenic drive for outdoor lovers, photographers, waterfall chasers, and those who just want to see someplace spectacular. From the highest single-drop waterfall to roadside gems, this route takes you to some of the most beautiful falls the state has to offer.
The following itinerary takes you to nine scenic waterfalls in New Hampshire. Your drive is approximately 140 miles, allowing you to easily complete it in a single day. However, we recommend spreading things out to create a gorgeous weekend outdoors. You can use this interactive map to help you customize your route and follow this New Hampshire waterfall loop at your own pace.
1. Franconia Notch State Park, Lincoln

We begin our journey at one of the most wonderful state parks in New Hampshire—Franconia Notch State Park. This is a great place to meet friends who took multiple cars, so you can all take just one. And, of course, stop and enjoy some of the many waterfalls here, including The Basin, Cloudland, and Swiftwater. If you have the time, make sure to check out Flume Gorge as well.
2. Beecher and Pearl Cascades, Carroll
One of the best features of the Beecher and Pearl Cascades is the hike to go and see them. Starting behind the Crawford Depot, the old train station right next to the Appalachian Mountain Club, you can begin your route by enjoying some history. Then, continue on the trail to see the stunning 35-foot waterfall.
3. Ammonoosuc Ravine, Sargent’s Purchase
This is a great place to get out and stretch those legs. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the state, seeing this waterfall will take a little bit of effort. The hike to the Ammonoosuc Ravine is about 2.5 miles, and it leads through some beautiful woods.
4. Arethusa Falls, Hart’s Location

The highest single-drop waterfall in New Hampshire might also be the most well-known. You've probably seen photos of this waterfall in every season of the year, but we love it most in the summer. The water is flowing, the sun is out, and this waterfall simply shines!
5. Jackson Falls, Jackson

Especially beautiful in the fall, Jackson Falls will be a welcome relief for folks who don't feel like hiking. You can see this one practically from the road, making it a great place to stop and enjoy a quick picnic or some snacks along the way.
6. Glen Ellis Falls, Jackson

This 65-foot waterfall is one of our favorites on this road trip. In fact, many people consider it to be one of the most beautiful in the entire state! Luckily, the hike to Glen Ellis Falls will only take you about 10 minutes. Keep in mind, there are some stairs you'll have to climb, but this is one stop along this New Hampshire waterfall road trip that is sure to leave you mesmerized.
7. Diana’s Baths, Bartlett
Another one of the most well-known natural wonders in the state, Diana's Baths makes for a great day trip all on its own. The pools and falls are fun for kids to splash around in, and the smooth rocks are fascinating to see. Keep in mind there is a parking fee, and this area can become extremely busy during the summer, especially on the weekends. If you want to enjoy this area without the crowds, autumn is particularly stunning (but can be chilly if splashing in the water is on your to-do list).
8. Lower Falls, Albany
The next portion of our road trip takes us on the most lovely roadway on the Kancamagus Highway! The Lower Falls along the Swift River can be found here, and there's so much to enjoy! Similar to Diana's Baths, this area can become extremely busy, so you'll want to time your visit accordingly. Also, be cautious when walking along the rocks—they can become quite slippery.
9. Sabbaday Falls, Conway

And last up is another New Hampshire beauty. Easy to access and absolutely beautiful, Sabbaday Falls is located along the Kancamagus Highway, and the hike to enjoy these falls is just over 0.25 miles one way. This multi-tiered, 35-foot waterfall is stunning as it sits within a glacier-carved gorge. Just remember that swimming and wading here is strictly prohibited.
Once you've taken it all in, follow the directions to get back to 1-93 or head back to your starting point at Franconia Notch State Park for even more scenic waterfalls. And, of course, if you are looking for even more road trips in New Hampshire, check out some of our favorite road trip itineraries we've created throughout the years.
