Walter/Newton Natural Area Trail Is A Beginner-Friendly Waterfall Trail In New Hampshire That’s Great For A Family Hike
Discover the easy and scenic Walter-Newton Natural Area Trail in New Hampshire, leading to the beautiful Rainbow Falls.
If you're in search of a small adventure, New Hampshire is always a great place to start! As one of the most beautiful states in the country, there are plenty of things to do that immerse you in the beauty of nature. However, while we might have big ambitions the reality is that most times we just want a simple activity that will calm our nerves and bring us some peace. That's why we love this hike. It's easy, pretty, and ends in a fun waterfall.
To see one of the sweetest little waterfalls in New Hampshire you’ll want to head to the Walter-Newton Natural Area in Plymouth where a hike with the same name will take you to Rainbow Falls.
The Walter-Newton Natural Area Trail is a 1.6-mile loop that meanders through a wooded area.
Unsurprisingly, the journey to reach this waterfall is (you guessed it!) even better than the destination.
The views are lovely, the setting is peaceful and by the time you’re done you might just have some more ease in your soul.
The shaded areas covered by trees are a welcome feature in the summer.
But there are also wide open meadows with wetlands that add to the views.
With virtually no elevation, this is easy on little legs and the promise of the fun waterfall at the end is enough to keep them moving along.
Once you arrive you’ll be greeted by a 20-foot waterfall fed by Grove Hollow Brook.
It’s best just after a rain in the spring when the falls are flowing strong, but you can access the trail and the waterfall at any time of year.
To access the trail and the parking lot head to Cummings Hill Road.
The Walter/Newton Natural Area Trail is best accessed between March and November. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash. You can learn more about the trail on alltrails.com.
If you love these easy hikes because you have some little kid-legs in your family, we've got something else you can try! Your kids will love this easy quarter-mile waterfall hike right here in New Hampshire.
