Every season is magical here in New Hampshire, but there's something about winter. And winter with a little snow? Well that's what the kids might call "next level." It might be cold out there, but every natural feature in the state feels just a little more special when surrounded by the magic of winter. If you feel the same, you might want to explore some of the best snowy attractions in New Hampshire.
1. Arethusa Falls, White Mountains
New Hampshire's largest waterfall has a drop of about 140 feet and every single inch is beautiful. It's gorgeous year-round, but there's something special about a waterfall covered in ice and snow, not moving at all.
2. Rocky Gorge Scenic Area, Albany
This beautiful area is full of natural pools and waterfalls that simple to find and explore if you have mobility. There's also a fun footbridge, which is extra-pretty in the snow.
3. Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Newington
One of the best things about New Hampshire is just how natural protected areas there are. This one, located in Newington, is one of our favorites for exploring lots of different types of landscapes. In the winter, things get extra-special with a coating of snow.
4. Sculptured Rocks Natural Area, Groton
Sculptured Rocks Natural Area was formed by the Cockermouth River when it carved grooves through the rocks over centuries. The entire area 272 acres and it offers lots of beauty, especially in the winter. But if you choose to visit in the summer, be sure to bring your swimsuit because you can swim in some sections. It's hard to imagine it when it looks like cold!
5. Mount Washington, White Mountain National Forest
Every New Hampshirite is proud of Mount Washington and it's even more beautiful covered in snow. If you're hearty and adventurous you might even consider a chilly hike.
6. Upper Falls, Ammonoosuc River
Most people know this area as a popular swimming hole during the summer. But hike here via the 2-mile Ammonoosuc River Loop and you'll be in for a wintery scene unlike any other!
7. Beaver Brook Falls Natural Area, Colebrook
This snow-covered waterfall is especially fantastic because it requires no hike to reach. Simply enter the parking area and look up! It has an 80-foot drop that feels huge when looking at it from the bottom.
