7 Short And Sweet Fall Hikes In New Hampshire With A Spectacular End View
As we all know, fall goes by in a flash in New Hampshire – it sometimes feels like we go straight from summer to fall. That makes it all the more essential that we get out there and enjoy autumn while we can. And what better way to do that than by hiking? These hikes all offer gorgeous autumn views without requiring you to spend a whole day schlepping up a mountain – it's the best of both worlds.
1. Mount Major and Brook Trail Loop, Alton Bay
This 3.8 mile loop trail will take you to the top of a mountain without suffering for too long, and your effort will be rewarded with out-of-this-world lake and mountain views.
2. Old Bride Path, Center Sandwich
This 1.7 mile out and back trail in West Rattlesnake Natural Area will take you uphill to a perfect lookout over Squam Lake. It's a remarkable view!
3. Cathedral Ledge Trail, Bartlett
This 2.1 mile out and back trail in Echo Lake State Park includes a steep climb uphill to the top of Cathedral Ledge, where you'll be rewarded with some of the most spectacular views in New Hampshire.
4. Barlow Trail and Winslow Trail Loop, Wilmot
This 2.6 mile loop trail takes you to the top of Mt. Kearsage, where you can climb up a fire tower for some really gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains.
5. Black Cap Trail, North Conway
For views of the Presidentials without the epic hike, head to this 2.5 mile out and back trail – it will certainly reward you for your effort.
6. Arethusa Falls via Bemis Brook Trail, Bartlett
This 2.8 mile out and back trail in Crawford Notch State Park takes you to the magnificent Arethusa Falls, with several other smaller falls on the way. What could be better than the combination of a waterfall and foliage? Bring your camera!
7. Table Rock Trail, Colebrook
This 1.5 mile out and back trail in Dixville Notch State Park is not for those afraid of heights - but if you can stomach seeing the drop off the side of Table Rock, you'll enjoy some truly stunning scenery.
