There are certain hiking trails in Montana that are absolutely fantastic for both the beginner and the seasoned hiker alike. And even if you fall into the second category, you know that sometimes a nice, easy nature walk is necessary. The next time you're lucky enough to visit Glacier National Park, check out the Trail of the Cedars. This boardwalk trail is a blast.
The Trail of the Cedars is located about five miles east of Lake McDonald Lodge, near Avalanche Creek.
This mile-long loop is a great nature walk for hikers of all skill levels.
This is one of two trails at Glacier National Park that is wheelchair accessible.
And since it's such a popular spot, you'll probably be sharing the experience with other Montanans -- but you won't mind one bit.
The trail begins and ends on Going-To-The-Sun Road.
Most people begin their hike on the eastern side of the loop, but you can start on either side.
Not only will you pass through a forest of ancient western red cedars and western hemlocks, but you'll get an up-close-and-personal look at Avalanche Creek.
You can even take in some views of the lower Avalanche Gorge.

This trail can be done in tandem with the Avalanche Lake Trail, which will take you to a gorgeous lake.
However, the Avalanche Lake Trail is sometimes closed due to weather or bear sightings.
This is a short trail, but you'll definitely want to take your time when you're on it.
It shows off the rugged natural beauty Glacier National Park is known for.
The Trail of the Cedars is a fantastic warm-up for other, more challenging hikes, but it's also a beautiful nature walk all on its own.
If you're visiting Glacier any time soon, pay it a visit.
