Some People Call The Ten Lakes Scenic Area In Montana A Little Slice Of Paradise

We might be biased, but we happen to think every part of Montana is beautiful. That being said, some spots in the Treasure State do tend to shine especially bright. This is also where you'll find the Ten Lakes Scenic Area in Montana, a place that truly lives up to its name.

Ten Lakes Scenic Area of the Kootenai National Forest is located in the extreme northwest corner of Montana.

To put it in perspective, it's about 105 miles north of Libby near the Canadian border.

Here you'll find 89 miles of hiking trails, backpacking opportunities, and incredible mountain views that reach into Canada...

... and, of course, an abundance of beautiful freshwater lakes.

The area is named for the Ten Lakes basin along the Canadian border. There are actually more than 10 in this area.

Ten Lakes Scenic Area encompasses 15,700 acres and is surrounded by 19,000 more acres of rugged nature.

Despite how remote this area is, access to it is quite easy.

You won't have to go far from the road to find a great picnic or hiking spot. And that's a good thing, because motorized vehicles are not allowed in the official Scenic Area.

If you'd like to spend the night here, Little and Big Therriault Campgrounds provide campsites with fire rings, water pumps, and vault toilets.

There's even a Horse Camp for the equestrian guests. You're also welcome to go backpacking and enjoy some off-the-beaten-path camping, but you'll want to take your bear spray. The area is remote, and black and grizzly bears are often spotted.
