Montana has some fantastic waterfall hikes -- but sadly, most of them aren't accessible all year. Some of our most popular falls are found inside Glacier National Park, which isn't an easy trek for most Montanans (and often not a great idea in the dead of winter for safety's sake). That's why we can appreciate a nice, short waterfall hike we can access all year long - like the Ousel Falls Trail. You can easily spend a day relaxing by the falls here.
Ousel Falls is a stunning 50-foot waterfall that sits at the end of a nice, easy trail in Big Sky.
Big Sky is known for its abundant outdoor recreation, and this is definitely one of its most popular attractions.
The trail is about 1.6 miles in length, and it's great for all skill levels.
While the trail is open all year, you might require some special equipment if you'd like to hike it in the snow.
Before you know it, you'll reach the beautiful waterfall, which you'll hear before you see.
Given its close proximity to town, it comes as no surprise that both locals and tourists consider it a favorite spot.
The water flow varies throughout the year, but it never stops.
It flows into a small pool at the bottom, which is nice and relaxing.
While this is certainly not a place you'd want to swim, getting up close and personal to the falls is always interesting.
Just watch out for slick spots, and don't try it alone.
There are plenty of picnic tables in the area, and it's clear this trail has been properly maintained.
This is the kind of place where the community is encouraged to come and stay awhile.
This is a family-friendly area, and well-behaved leashed dogs are also welcome.
Just make sure to pick up your trash, keep your distance, and be courteous to your fellow Montanans. Ousel Falls is a treasure we all deserve to enjoy.
