This Scenic Hike Will Make You Fall In Love With Montana All Over Again

If you ever have the chance to hike the Jewel Basin, you should do so as soon as possible.

The Jewel Basin is located near Kalispell and Bigfork in the Flathead National Forest.

If you want to avoid snow, your best bet is to hike the trail between mid-July and mid-October.

Trail 717 starts at the Jewel Basin Hiking area parking lot, Camp Misery Trail Head.

From there, you'll climb to the highest point in the Jewel Basin area. The total duration of the hike is around six miles.

This trail is ranked as moderate, meaning it's not too difficult for a beginner, but not without its challenges.

There are some steep inclines, but the visual rewards make it all worth it.

The Jewel Basin is truly a day hiker's paradise.

Not only will you see expansive views of the Flathead Valley, you just might spot some wildlife on the trail, like mountain goats.

There's truly something special about this part of the Treasure State.
