Spend any real time exploring Montana and the first thing you're bound to notice is that the lakes are second to none. Our beautiful bodies of water are simply beautiful, and they also happen to be nice and diverse. One lake that doesn't get enough love is a hidden gem in Glacier National Park known as Bowman Lake. But its remote location is just part of its charm.
Bowman Lake is located well within the borders of Glacier National Park, like many of Montana's best bodies of water.
The lake is located in the northwestern portion of Glacier, in one of the most remote locations of the park.
The lake's hard to reach destination makes it one of the park's lesser visited areas, which is part of its appeal for many.
It's accessible from several different routes, the most common being by an unpaved road from the small town of Polebridge.
Stock up on tasty provisions at the Polebridge Mercantile, pack your blankets and lake gear, and spend the day enjoying a picnic on the shoreline.
If you can handle the chilly lake temps, it makes a great spot to go swimming in the summertime. Just remember, the water is glacially cold.
As you can imagine, kayaking and canoeing on these crystal blue waters is an experience like no other.
Bowman Lake definitely has some of the bluest water in Montana.
There are numerous hiking trails that run along the shore of the lake for those who'd like to get some exercise and take in the views from a unique angle.
It really is a perfect day trip destination. There is even a small campground at the south tip of the lake that is typically quiet and uncrowded.
Bowman Lake is an underrated treasure, and we're lucky to have it.
If you're heading up to Glacier National Park next summer, devote a day to exploring this stunning area.
