7 Glorious Waterfront Trails In Montana To Take On A Summer Day
Discover the best hiking trails in Montana, offering stunning views and diverse experiences for all levels of hikers.
Picture it: It's a warm, sunny day in summer, you don't have any commitments, and you're aching to get outside and go hiking. The only thing better than a summer hike in Montana happens to be a summer hike by the water. And these seven waterfront trails will deliver the ultimate outdoor experience.
1. Rivers Edge Trail, Great Falls
Great Falls' 9-mile Rivers Edge Trail is perfect for hikers, bikers and in-line skaters. The paved path connects some of the city's finest parks, and it weaves along the edge of the Missouri River.
2. Swan River Trail, Bigfork
This nice, easy 2.5 mile trail is exceptionally lovely on a warm summer day. Since it's both dog and kid-friendly, it's definitely popular, but you can avoid the crowds by starting early in the morning.
3. Lake McDonald Trail, Glacier National Park
Lake McDonald is definitely one of Glacier National Park's most iconic spots, and this easy 13-mile trail allows you to see as much of it as you'd like while getting some great exercise.
4. Holland Lakes and Falls Trail, Condon
A Lake AND a waterfall? Sign us up. This 3-mile hike is easy, peaceful and totally scenic.
5. Riverfront Trail, Missoula
Missoula's Riverfront Trail makes for a peaceful walk along the Clark Fork River in any season. Summertime is especially crowded, but it's well worth enjoying the experience with your fellow Montanans. There's plenty of room for everyone.
6. Johns Lake Loop, Glacier National Park
The Johns Lake Loop is one of Glacier's most underrated trails. At just under 2 miles in length, it's nice and easy, but the scenery is beautiful, especially when the wildflowers are in bloom.
7. Glacier Lake Trail, Condon
Glacier Lake Trail is relatively easy, taking you through thick woods to the water. It's particularly nice on those brutally hot summer days we sometimes see in Montana since much of the trail is shaded.
These are just a few of Montana's many beautiful waterfront trails. Some of these low-key hikes will take you straight to a waterfall.
