Tiny But Mighty, The Smallest State Park In Missouri Is A Hidden Gem Worth Exploring

Missouri's 92 state parks come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you're up for an all-day adventure or just a quick one, you'll quickly discover that the smallest state park in Missouri fits the bill. Admittedly, it doesn't have a whole lot to do like at other Missouri state parks, but it's home to what is called a "geologic oddity" that you'll definitely want to see.

Tucked on 161 acres in Campbell, Morris State Park is still relatively young in the state park system, as it was established in 2000.

If you've not been to this cozy Missouri state park, you won't need all day, so it's perfect if you're up for a quick adventure.

Named for Jim D. Morris, who donated the land to Missouri, the state park's defining feature just might be Crowley's Ridge.

Rising 200 feet above the flood plain of the Mississippi River, Crowley's Ridge dates back to the ice age. It is, according to Missouri State Parks, "a strip of low hills."

Those hills measure between a half of a mile to five miles wide. It's definitely a geological wonder you'll want to see for yourself.

You can view Crowley's Ridge along the park's lone hiking trail. Tallying 2.25 miles, the Beech Tree Trail is a loop and earns a moderate rating.

Wear sturdy shoes if you plan to hike the trail as you'll deal with a variety of terrain that can be slippery. You may also deal with shifting rocks.

Only a very short portion, around .1 of a mile, is accessible, so keep that in mind when visiting.

While the trail is beautiful in all seasons, lather on the bug spray in spring, summer, and fall when mosquitoes are out in droves.

The park is also idea for viewing local wildlife - turtles, raccoons, deer, and squirrels.
