Most People Have No Idea This Enchanting Park In Missouri Exists

Pickle Springs in Missouri offers an enchanting adventure with stunning geological formations and diverse plant species.

Enchanting is the word you would normally use to describe a fictional fairy tale. However, when it comes to this hidden gem in Ste. Genevieve, there's really nothing more magical. If you're in the mood for a bit of adventure, I highly suggest taking a day trip to explore this stunning geological and botanical wonderland in Missouri.

Pickle Springs is a 180-acre natural area that is registered as a National Natural Landmark.

To make the most out of your adventure, hike the 1.9-mile Trail Through Time path. You'll come across some jaw dropping views, a waterfall, a natural spring and more.

The natural area is home to over 250 vascular plant species including many rare species that are considered glacial relicts.

Along the way, you'll come across a lot of lichen and moss which makes this natural area really stand out amongst others in Missouri.

All of the fascinating rock formations, including this natural double bridge, are comprised of Lamotte sandstone. This sandstone was formed from sandy beaches from oceans that existed 500 million years ago. Wait a second, oceans in Missouri? Yep, my mind is officially blown.

Some of these sandstone rock formations include giant bluffs, where hikers can climb on top of to get sweeping views of the rest of the natural area.

Following a rainy day is the perfect time to see the wet weather waterfalls. When it's warm out, dip your toes in the refreshing, crystal clear waters.

Pickle Spring is truly unlike any other state park or natural area in Missouri, and that's why everyone who visits loves it!

Since it's been unnaturally warm this fall, this weekend would be a perfect time to go!

To get to the Pickle Springs Natural Area, start from the junction of Highways 32 and W in Farmington, travel east on Highway 32 for 5 miles, then turn right (east) on Highway AA. Follow Highway AA east for 1.7 miles to Dorlac Road (gravel). Turn left (north) onto Dorlac Road and drive 0.4 mile to the parking lot on the right (east) side.
