This Waterfall In Missouri Is So Hidden You’ll Probably Have It All To Yourself
Discover a hidden waterfall on the Coy Bald Trail in Missouri's Hercules Glades Wilderness Area.
We all have that urge to just get away every now and then. Sometimes we just want to relax and to recharge. Other times, however, we want to escape the crowds out of necessity. Next time you're searching for somewhere to go away from the crowds, consider setting off on this picturesque hike that leads to a hidden waterfall in Missouri. You might just have it all to yourself, too.
Tucked within the Hercules Glades Wilderness Area in Mark Twain National Forest, a hidden waterfall gushes down, just waiting to be discovered by hikers.
To find it, lace up your hiking shoes; bring plenty of bottled water, and follow the Coy Bald Trail, a nearly seven-mile trek. No matter what time of the year you set off, the trail is usually quiet.
That means it's just you, your hiking partner(s), and nature at its finest. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge as the hike is rated moderate.
If you feel like getting away from it all for a few days, bring your camping gear, too. You'll find campsites at the beginning of and along the trail. Campsites have fire rings.
Make sure you're wearing waterproof shoes—or shoes you don't mind getting wet—as you'll cross through water at several points.
You'll probably hear the flow of the waterfall before it comes into full view. Keep in mind that it will be at its best after a rainfall and may just be a trickle during dry periods.
The waterfall is approximately three miles into the hike that includes some easy and some rocky terrain, one of the reasons for the moderate rating.
Leashed pups are permitted along the trail, as long as you clean up after them.
