Finding adventure and beauty among nature in Missouri isn't difficult, especially if you live within a fair distance of one of Missouri's 92 state parks. Graham Cave State Park in Missouri, for example, offers everything you'd expect from a sprawling state park. However, it also boasts some hidden gems and a rich history.
Tucked on nearly 390 acres in Danville, Graham Cave State Park promises plenty to do no matter what time of the year you visit.
However, before having a picnic or going for a leisurely boat ride, follow one the park's most magnificent trails, Indian Glade and Graham Cave Loop Trail.
The 2.5-mile trail leads to several spectacular hidden gems, including Graham Cave, which dates back more than 10,000 years.
In fact, researchers have found evidence that people lived in that cave many thousands of years ago. You can learn more about the cave's ancient history by visiting the mouth of the cave and by...
Reading the markers dotted along the trail. You'll also come across such natural beauty as a wet-weather waterfall.
If you hike the trail after a rainfall, you'll get to see the beautiful waterfall cascading down. (However, if it's not rained in a good while, you probably won't even see a trickle of a waterfall.)
Be prepared to get really muddy if you follow the trail after a rainfall, and don't expect too much quiet. You can often hear highway traffic when you're in the park.
Graham Cave State Park also features such amenities as a playground near picnic tables and boating and fishing on the Loutre River.
