Missouri's brimming with sensational hiking trails. One, however, has been crowned Missouri's best hiking trail. Parade recently came out with the best hiking trail and outdoor art for all 50 states. With its many unique features — from sculptures made from bicycles to the 16 Bridges of Polk County, The Frisco Highline Trail came out on top in Missouri.
Trek along some or all of the 35-mile Frisco Highline Trail that spans from Springfield to Boliver and promises plenty of surprises along the way. The rail-trail is popular with hikers, walkers...
...bikers and rollerbladers. It's also wheelchair accessible. If you're planning on hiking the whole route, you can pick up the trailhead in Springfield at 3845 W. Kearney.
Along the first four miles of the trail, you'll see inspiring transportation-themed artwork, like the bicycle sculpture pictured below.
Don't worry if you get hungry or thirsty along the way, although you might want to bring bottled water and snacks. The trail's also dotted with spots to stop for a bite to eat, including...
Naomi's Cafe, Chuck's Dinesty Diner, and 7C's Winery and Meadery.
From mile 18 to the final mile 35, you'll begin your journey along The 16 Bridges of Polk County, former railroad bridges now used predominately by hikers and bikers.
The trail ends at Dunnegan Memorial Park, an idyllic spot for a leisurely picnic at one of the picnic tables or pavilions.
