Remote often means an abundance of peace, quiet, and solitude. If you're craving both a challenge and some alone time, you will most certainly find both on this beautiful and remote trail in Missouri. Some, in fact, consider it Missouri's most remote trail. Before you set off, though, make sure you're prepared for the challenge that awaits.
You'll need at least 15 hours, according to the Missouri State Parks, to complete the 15-mile Brushy Creek Trail, which runs through the Roger Pioneer Backcountry.
If you want to follow the entire loop trail, pack your tent and everything you'll need for a night or two out in the wilderness.
This is a hard trail, wandering through one of the most remote parts of Missouri, so you must be physically capable and ready for the challenge.
Wear (and pack, if you'll be camping out) appropriate clothing, including shoes you don't mind getting wet. You'll have to cross several streams.
The terrain, in fact, is what earns this trek a difficult rating. Keep an eye out for downed trees and tree roots as you maneuver rocky, muddy, and slippery terrain.
Some of the trail runs alongside an old railroad bed, and you'll pass a smattering of rock formations.
You'll definitely get a workout as there are inclines, some that tally more than a 10 percent grade.
If you're up for the challenge, you're pretty much guaranteed an abundance of solitude. Chances are you won't see another person during your entire journey.
The trail can get incredibly buggy during the warmer months, and hikers recommend following it when it's cooler.
