A Secret Paradise Awaits You On This Remote Mississippi Island And You’ll Want To Visit

Deer Island, a secluded spot off the coast of Biloxi, Mississippi, offers pristine waters, wildlife encounters, and accessible outdoor activities.

For many, a tropical getaway would require traveling out of state and possibly an expensive flight. Luckily, that’s not the case for us Mississippians. You see, less than a mile off the state’s coastline lays a desolate island, otherwise known as Deer Island. The secluded spot features pristine water, unrivaled views, and up close encounters with wildlife. Even better, the secret paradise is easily accessible and just waiting to be explored. Take a look:

Spanning 400 acres, Deer Island is located just 1/4 mile from the coast of Biloxi.

Becuase Deer Island is so close, anyone with a small boat, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard can access it.

Within the last few years, a boat pier was added to the north side of the island, making it even easier to access.

The pier is in 3.5 feet of water at high tide, so it's perfect for smaller boats.

As soon as you arrive on Deer Island, you'll be greeted with signage on nature trails, which are a great way to explore the beautiful island.

Referred to as "a phenomenal pearl," Deer Island features miles of undisturbed sandy beaches...

...and not much else, which means it's the perfect place for some fun in the sun minus the crowds that are often associated with beaches.

The pristine waters are perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day.

It's also a great place for some fishing, so don't forget your gear.

You'll definitely want to spend some time walking along the stunning shoreline, where finding ancient arrowheads is a real possibility.

Be sure to bring along your camera - pods of dolphins and ospreys swooping in for a quick bite are common sights.

Even better, your tropical adventure doesn't have to end when the sun goes down - you can camp right on the island.

Keep in mind, you'll be "primitive camping," since there are no restroom facilities on the island.
