This Exhilarating Hike Takes You To The Most Crystal Blue Lake In Mississippi

Ivy Lake Loop in Clarkco State Park offers scenic views of a crystal blue lake and various amenities.

There are lots of hikes in Mississippi, all of which have something special to offer. In the case of Ivy Lake Loop, that something is close-up views of a crystal blue lake and, since it’s located in a state park, easy access to an array of amenities.

Located in the small town of Quitman, Clarkco State Park is often overlooked, but it shouldn’t be. It’s got lots of perks, including Ivy Lake Loop.

As you’ve probably guessed from the name, the trail circles Ivy Lake. What the name doesn’t tell you is that Ivy Lake is absolutely beautiful!

The 65-acre lake boasts clear blue water - and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Ivy Lake is a favorite of paddlers as well as fishermen hoping to catch some largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish.

You don’t have to actually get out on the water to enjoy it, though. Instead, you can trek along the Ivy Lake Loop and take in its tranquil beauty from afar (but not too far).

The trail is 4.7 miles; however, you don’t have to hike the entire trail. You can hike as much – or as little – of the trail as you’d like.

Comprised of a mix of dirt footpaths and pavement, the trail circles the lake and connects to other trails that head into the surrounding forest – one of which leads to an observation tower.

Remember, Ivy Lake Loop is just one of Clarkco State Park’s many perks. The 815-acre park boasts a splash pad, swimming beach, boat launch, playgrounds, picnic sites, disc golf, and more.

The park features a variety of lodging options, too. Overnight guests can choose between RV sites, primitive sites, cabins, and ready-to-go platform tents.
