Cave Spring on the Natchez Trace Parkway offers a rare and beautiful hiking experience in Mississippi.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is full of must-visit sites, and Cave Spring is definitely one of them. One of only a few caves in Mississippi, it’s not only beautiful but rare. And with a trail leading straight to it, a visit to Cave Spring makes for one unforgettable hike. Take a look:

Cave Spring is located on the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 308.4.

It's easy to reach since there is a nature trail that leads right to it.

The 800' pathway is even paved, making the hike that much easier.

Made of limestone, the interior of the cave includes a long room and corridor.

It was carved out by underground water, which eventually dissolved a portion of the limestone.

Over time, however, the roof over the room weakened and collapsed.

Not only beautiful, the cave is also historically significant –it's believed that Indians once used the site as a source of water and stone.
