The Easy Trail That Might As Well Be The Wildflower Capital Of Mississippi
Located just north of Jackson, Ridgeland, Mississippi is a beautiful city with plenty of things to do, especially for outdoor adventures. Simmons Arboretum and the Ross R. Barnett Reservoir are two of the most popular attractions, not to mention the Natchez Trace Parkway. But if you’re looking for a hidden gem to explore, check out this splendid little park that’s a lovely area to admire the wildflowers in Mississippi. Let’s check it out:
The Ridgeland Wildflower Field and Art Park is the perfect spot to explore on a beautiful day.
The park is overflowing with wildflowers. When they're in bloom, it's like a kaleidoscope of colors in every direction!
There are other blooms here, too. Hundreds of zinnias also share the stage here.
Why zinnias? Well, they’re hearty fellas! They’re both heat and drought-resistant, which makes them perfect for Mississippi’s climate. Plus, they’ll continue to bloom until the first frost.
As you wander through the park you’ll notice several unique statues.
These were created by Harry Day, a local craftsman. Here are the names for each statue: Lance Leaved Coreopsis, Tall Blue Cornflower, Black-eyed Susan, Baby’s Breath, Sulfur Cosmos, Indian Blanket, and Clasping Coneflower. Take your time admiring each statue and its placement. They’re meant to highlight all of the fun things you can do in Ridgeland.
Locals love this park, but you know who loves it more? Pollinators! It’s a haven for bees, birds, and butterflies.
You could spend an entire afternoon just watching them bounce from flower to flower.
You’re welcome to pick yourself a little bouquet to take home.
This is one spot you'll want to return to every season to watch the different blooms all over.
Follow the Ridgeland Wildflower Field and Art Park on Facebook so you never miss out on any announcements or special events.
After you've checked out these lovely wildflowers in Mississippi, head over to Dogmud Tavern for some grub and games. If you want to spend a weekend exploring Ridgeland, these VRBOs are perfect.
