Everyone In Mississippi Must Visit This Epic Waterfall As Soon As Possible
Dunn’s Falls in Mississippi is a rare and easily accessible 65-foot waterfall located within a park that offers various amenities.
Waterfalls in Mississippi are rare. Waterfalls in Mississippi that are over 10’ tall are even rarer, which is part of what makes Dunn’s Falls so special.
Located in south Lauderdale County, this breathtaking 65’ waterfall is situated within Dunn’s Falls Water Park and because of such, is incredibly easy to access. The park also offers a ton of amenities, including a picnic area, barbecue grills, and campsites, making Dunn’s Falls the perfect destination for everything from an all day outing to an overnight adventure.
The cascading waterfall is located on the Chunky River, and at 65’ in height, it’s the tallest in the state.
The crystal clear Chunky River is perfect for fishing, canoeing, and swimming
The naturally occurring bluffs along the eastern bank of the river seem like the ideal spot for a waterfall to form; however, Dunn’s Falls is actually man-made.
In 1850, Irish immigrant John Dunn redirected the stream that now feeds the falls in order to power a grist mill.
While the original grist mill no longer exists, an authentic 1857 grist mill has been reconstructed on the site of Dunn’s original mill.
Visitors to Dunn’s Falls are treated to exceptional vistas, which include close-up views of the flowing water as it powers the still functioning water wheel and then makes its descent to the river below.
