The Virginia High Bridge is the tallest in the state, rising 200 feet over the water below. The Stone Arch Bridge is a beautiful and historic span of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. And the Zumbrota Covered Bridge is the last of its kind in Minnesota. These are all well worth visiting, but there are many more bridges to discover in Minnesota. For example, there's a little-known suspension bridge in Granite Falls, Minnesota. This rare suspension bridge doubles as a pedestrian path. Next time you're in the area, be sure to pay it a visit!
Granite Falls, Minnesota, is a small town in western Minnesota, about 120 miles west of the Twin Cities. The town is home to a long suspension bridge, a rare sight in Minnesota.
The historic bridge - built in 1935 - spans the Minnesota River, connecting downtown Granite Falls to Rice Park. It is 280 feet in length.
Being a pedestrian bridge, it's a great place to go for a walk in town. When you arrive in Rice Park, you'll find a lovely area with a playground, a disc golf course, and plenty of green grass.
Along the bridge itself, you'll have excellent views of the river. Not far away, you'll see a dam along the river. It's a unique view and a great way to see the dam up close.
All in all, the Granite Falls suspension bridge is a unique example of this type of bridge in Minnesota. There are not many others like it!
