We all know that Minnesota is beautiful in all seasons. Spring brings new sunshine, summer is lush and green, and fall is ablaze with autumn colors. But for many Minnesotans, winter is the prettiest season of the year. This may be because the Land of 10,000 Lakes has countless nature areas that, when covered in a blanket of snow, are simply stunning. One such place is Flandrau State Park, a small park near the city of New Ulm. Here, you can hike up a snowy staircase to see beautiful views of Minnesota from above. Pull on your snow boots and get ready for a beautiful jaunt through a snow-covered forest.
Flandrau State Park is found in New Ulm, Minnesota, a small city just about 100 miles southwest of Minneapolis. It is a lovely day trip for those in the metro area looking for somewhere new to explore.
The park is known for its hiking trails, camper cabins, and for summertime guests, its sand-bottom swimming pond. The park is gorgeous when everything is lush and green. But winter at Flandrau State Park can be beautiful, too.
For one thing, the forest is absolutely beautiful. After a blanket of snow, everything is perfectly peaceful and quiet. With the branches covered in snow, it's even more beautiful.
The trees run alongside the Cottonwood River, a 152-mile river in southwestern Minnesota.
The river, too, is beautiful in the wintertime. When the temperature rises above freezing, you may see patches of ice floating along its blue waters. It's beautiful.
One of the best things about Flandrau in the winter, however, is its trails. One in particular consists of a staircase up a hill. The snowy staircase is perfectly picturesque. Though it's steep, you will love your hike up it.
The view from the staircase is also beautiful. More snow-covered trees will line the way, their branches perfectly framing the view of the landscape below.
You'll be able to see the snow-covered hills both up close and at a distance. The view is peaceful, beautiful, and a wonderful place to visit this winter!
