Minnesota may be the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but that is only the beginning of its aquatic attractions. The state is also home to many rivers, streams, creeks, and wetlands that offer both refuge to wildlife and immense natural beauty. Some of our most famous attractions here in the North Star State are our plentiful waterfalls. While some are accessible only by tromping through the woods, there are many other waterfalls near me that you can see with no hiking necessary. Listed below is one of our favorites.
If you live in or around the Twin Cities, it couldn't be easier to visit one of Minnesota's most accessible waterfalls. It's located inside Minnehaha Park.
This scenic park is home to Minnehaha Creek, a 22-mile creek through Hennepin County. It flows from Lake Minnetonka to the Mississippi River.
The creek itself is a gorgeous place to take a stroll if you have the time and ability. Surrounded by nature, you'll feel far from the city.
Minnehaha Falls is the true star of the show at Minnehaha Park. This 53-foot waterfall is surrounded by walkways that are an easy walk from any of the nearby parking areas.
One walkway spans the top of the waterfall. You'll have an up-close look of the rushing waters as they fall 53 feet over the limestone cliffs.
Another area nearby offers a view of the waterfall itself. There are plenty of benches and grassy areas to sit down or have a picnic.
The waterfall is absolutely gorgeous from above, with no hiking required. However, if you are up for a little more activity, a series of stairs lead down to the base of the falls.
Here, you'll find paths along the creek. You'll also discover a lovely stone bridge that looks up from the base of the falls.
The view from the base is absolutely incredible! With the surrounding forest, cliffs, and creek, it will feel like a totally different world.
Regardless, be sure to visit Minnehaha Falls in every season of the year. No matter when you visit, you'll find a beautiful new sight to discover.
