A Massive Blizzard Blanketed Minneapolis In Snow In 1991 And It Will Never Be Forgotten

For many Minnesotans, blizzards and snowstorms tend to blend together. After all, the Land of 10,000 Lakes is one of the snowiest places in the United States, and a dumping of snow is just another winter day. But there are some storms that live on in the collective memory of all Minnesotans. These are storms so big, that result in snow piles so huge, that they will likely never be forgotten. In 1991, these conditions combined with what was supposed to be a fun holiday. It resulted in one of the most famous blizzards in Minnesota history.

Starting on October 31, 1991, a huge winter storm took over the Upper Midwest, including Minnesota.

Nearly the entire state was affected by the storm, including Minneapolis. It lasted until November 3 in some areas.

In total, the storm dumped up to 37 inches of snow in the hardest hit areas around Duluth. Minneapolis was not hit quite as hard, but it didn't escape the snow.

The blizzard is not only famous for its size; because it was on Halloween, the storm will never be forgotten.

While plows did their job and school closures scrolled across television screens, children in Minneapolis donned their costumes and headed out into the storm.

The Halloween Blizzard of 1991 has gone down as one of the most unforgettable storms in Minneapolis - and Minnesota - history.
