It's not often that places in Minnesota are linked to television or movies. For the most part, our state flies under the radar when it comes to being represented in Hollywood. But of course, there are a few places that have been featured in movies and television shows. There are still others that are simply inspired by the big and small screens. There's a Minnesota cafe that falls into that second category. It was inspired by the Little House on the Prairie television show, and it's begging to be visited.
Nellie's Cafe is located at 550 US-14, Walnut Grove, MN 56180. If Walnut Grove sounds familiar, it may be because the real-life Laura Ingalls lived there as a child.
Other attractions around town, like the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, are also worth visiting.
The cafe gets its name from Nellie Oleson, a character in the Little House books and TV show. The show took place in Walnut Grove, though it was not actually filmed there.
When you pull up, you'll immediately notice the simple but charming exterior. It gives way to an inviting dining room.
There's even an entire wall dedicated to Nellie Oleston — or at least, the actress who played her.
The friendly staff will present you with a menu full of all-American favorites. You can't go wrong with breakfast.
But really, just about everything on the menu is worth trying.
Sandwiches and soups make for hearty lunches before venturing out to explore the town. Don't leave without trying a slice of pie!
