There’s something decidedly wholesome about heading out for a calming bike ride. Whether you’re a frequent adventurer or more of a casual and occasional bicyclist, nothing beats a day of exploration and fresh air atop two wheels. If you’re also a fan of fall foliage, we’ve got a dreamy option for your upcoming itinerary: one of the most beautiful fall bike trails in Michigan. Scenic splendor awaits.
The Hart-Montague Trail State Park, also referred to as the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail State Park, extends between the communities of Montague and Hart in Muskegon and Oceana Counties.
If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy a bike ride, it’s tough to go wrong with this linear pathway. In total, the trail extends for 22 miles and offers a mid-length adventure that the whole crew will appreciate.
Following the line of a now-defunct railway, the Hart-Montague Trail offers a sense of history alongside its many scenic views. Visitors will be happy to learn that the trail is paved, which makes for a smooth ride.
Pick up the trail near downtown Montague or hop on at any number of trailheads, with locations ranging from Shelby to New Era. From the Hart end, the trail can be accessed via Wood Street or West Polk Road.
While there’s beauty to be found in every season, nothing beats an autumn excursion along the Hart-Montague Trail. After all, there’s no better time to ride your bike through seemingly endless fall foliage.
As you wind through small towns and under towering trees, you’ll find yourself utterly enchanted by the colors of fall. Bright reds, oranges, and yellows give the trail a natural energy that’s impossible to replicate.
Be sure to bring your camera along for a few photos along the way, as you’ll want to remember this bike ride. You’ll even encounter orchards, bridges, and possibly some local livestock – what’s not to adore?
Whether you’re seeking a solo excursion or planning to bring the whole family along on your adventure, the wonders of Hart-Montague Trail State Park won’t disappoint. This is such a magical place to experience fall.
