Seven Lakes State Park In Holly, Michigan Is So Little-Known, You Just Might Have It All To Yourself

Seven Lakes State Park in Michigan offers a serene and diverse natural experience with multiple lakes, trails, and activities.

The best state parks in Michigan are all around, making us some of the luckiest people on the planet. The Great Lake State has plenty of well-known parks visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year,  such as Tahquamenon Falls, P.J. Hoffmaster, and the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness. But while I love P.J. Hoffmaster and other popular state parks, there’s nothing like finding a hidden gem just waiting to be explored. When you visit this state park in Holly, Michigan, you might be lucky enough to have the place all to yourself.

Seven Lakes State Park is located in southeast Michigan, about an hour northwest of Detroit.

We can thank a failed development scheme for this incredible state park.

In 1967, a private party built a dam to create one large lake from the seven smaller lakes on the property. The developers gave up and the state of Michigan bought the site in 1969 with the official park opening in 1977.

As a result, the little-known state park in Michigan has so many breathtaking views of the water that it’s hard to believe it’s not a popular tourist destination.

Seven beautiful lakes exist on the 1,434-acre property, offering artistic expressions in unexpected places.

Along with farmland, forests, and rolling hills, four trails are available through the rich woods.

The longest and most interesting hike is the Seven Lakes-Green Trail Loop in Fenton, offering lake views and mature hardwood forests. The 2.25-mile journey can be lengthened or shortened by adding another hike or taking a shortcut. We love the variety available at this little-known state park in Michigan.

You’ll find plenty of activities to do at this park, including fishing, camping, boating, kayaking, hiking, swimming, and biking!

What ambition for a day on the lake!

While summer may be the perfect time to go swimming at this natural oasis, don't forget how handsome the lake looks embraced in all the trees blazing with autumn colors.

No matter the season, one of the best Michigan State Parks will take your heart.
