We love sharing with you some of the best road trip ideas in all of Michigan. This time around, we wanted to introduce to you some of the gorgeous scenic byways that the state has to offer.
Follow these routes and you're bound to be blown away by all the natural beauty that abounds in Michigan's lower and upper peninsulas.

1. Red Arrow Highway
Get a peek at the many coastal communities along the shores of Lake Michigan on Red Arrow Highway. You'll pass through New Buffalo, St. Joseph, and Union Pier (both pictured here).

Follow this noteable scenic drive through Arcadia to Frankfort, and through Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Explore the underrated "Sunrise Coast" along Lake Huron. It'll take you through the towns of Tawas City and Alpena, and a number of smaller coastal villages.

4. River Road Scenic Byway

Wind around the AuSable River from Oscoda to capture awe-inspiring views and hiking opportunities right along the river's edge.

Enter the gateway to the UP by traversing the Mackinac Bridge from St. Ignace and then curve around the Lake Michigan shoreline, as well as Manistique.

Catch a glimpse of the Les Cheneaux Islands that sit on Lake Huron on M-134 between Hessel and Drummond Island. Along the way, you'll encounter historic boathouses and a very New England feel.
7. Tunnel of Trees

Between Harbor Springs and Cross Village, you'll come across M-119, also known as the "Tunnel of Trees." The canopy of trees that surround this byway are lush and green during the warmer months and magnificent gold, red, and yellow in the fall.
